Teacher Terry Doud Honored for Innovation
Physical Science Teacher Terry Doud received a "Haugen's Hero" award from Superintendent Jay Haugen at the Faculty Appreciation Breakfast on Friday, June 6. The award recognizes outstanding innovation throughout the school district.
Mr. Doud's classes this year bred geckos, incubated shark eggs, and studied a host of other creatures that inhabited the classroom. Mr. Doud was also commended for establishing partnerships, such as the one with Underwater Adventures at the Mall of America that provides sharks for his classroom. He has also written grants and received funding for specialized equipment, including $2000 from the Commercial Club for tanks.
"He has lots of ways to get kids really interested in science," said Principal Chris Hiti. "Our students look forward to being in his class, and he makes sure they get hands-on experiences that reinforce learning."
